چکیده

British Journal of General Practice, February 2014 107 IntroduCtIon Every year approximately 40 000 pacemakers and defibrillators are implanted in the UK amounting to one new implanted device per GP.1 Placements of pacemakers or implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) have become routine procedures and are generally associated with low complication rates. One of the most endangering complications is the perforation of electrodes. Usually the perforation of leads occurs shortly after implantation and it is an acute and potentially life-threatening event.2,3 Late lead perforations more than 1 month after initial implantation have been described as exceedingly rare incidents.4,5

Delayed Perforation of the Right Ventricular Wall by a Single Standard-Caliber Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator Lead Detected by Multidetector Computed Tomography

We present an unusual case of a delayed right ventricular perforation by a single standard-caliber implantable cardioverter-defibrillator lead, which manifested 14 days after implantation. Multidetector computed tomography could clearly display the lead perforation, and allow for identification of the associated sequelae such as pericardial effusion and planning the lead extraction strategy.

Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator in a patient with dextrocardia situs inversus

Background: Dextrocardia is a congenital anomaly, which may have coexistent coronary artery disease (CAD), arrhythmias and conventional indications for device therapy. However, the implantation of transvenous leads can be technically challenging and the approach needs to be tailored to the patient's individual anatomy. Case presentation: A 54-year-old male with dextrocardia situs inversus and i...

Delayed cardiac perforation of the Durata implantable cardioverter-defibrillator lead more than 1 year after implantation

Introduction The rate of implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) lead perforations has been reported to be in the range of 0.6%– 5.2%, with the majority of cases occurring within 1 month of implantation. However, isolated reports of delayed ICD lead perforations occurring more than 1 year and up to 3 years after implantation have been described. Here, we present a case of a patient with a ...
